Godspell is a musical by Stephen Schwartz and John-Michael Tebelak. It opened off Broadway on May 17, 1971, and has played in various touring companies and revivals many times since, including a 2011 revival which played on Broadway from October 13, 2011 to June 24, 2012. Several cast albums have been released over the years and one of its songs, “Day by Day” from the original cast album, reached #13 on the Billboard pop singles chart in the summer of 1972

Ten West’s production featured young adults in performances on March 28, 29, and 30, 2013.

This was Ten West Center for the Arts’ very first theatrical production. We believe the talent in our community needs to be shown off, and they blew everyone away.

Here is a great review from a local director

The cast and crew put in over ten hours a week for two months to pull this show off. Their dedication was evident upon opening the doors and watching over 350 patrons flood in over the course of four shows. People came from as far as Georgia, Tennessee and Ohio to see these talented students. This page will stay up and act as a history for the show.

 Cast and Crew Bios

Jesus – Cameron Hansen

Cameron Hansen is a senior at Mt. Vernon High School. His theatrical performances include playing the role of the steward in Into the Woods, as well as the constable at his home church, Franklin Road Baptist Church, in a Christmas play production. In his free time, Cameron enjoys creating content for computers, spending time with his friends, and participating in his youth group. He plans to attend Purdue University this fall where he will pursue a degree in Computer Graphics Technology.

John/Judas – Derek Bond

Derek Bond is a strapping young lad who is pleased to be on stage at Ten West. He can sing, he can dance, and best of all, he looks good while doing both. Fun fact: he spends 25 minutes a day making his hair do the swoopy thing that it does. He would like to thank Bob Evans for not firing him while he was working on this show and his parents for letting him stay out late. On the weekends Derek is frightened by the vacuum cleaner and likes to eat peanut butter.

Sonia – Lindsey Stamper

Lindsey Stamper is currently a junior at Mt. Vernon High School. She loves all forms of music: singing, playing instruments, writing songs, and jamming with her friends. In her free time she enjoys a nice chalice of Dr. Pepper while blogging, watching movies, or reading a book. Her favorite things are God, theatre, fashion, cats, and happiness. After high school she plans to study at Ball State for Music Education. Sit back, relax, and enjoy her performance as the sultry Sonia.

Lamar – Ryan Dockery

Ryan Dockery is pleased to be playing the role of Lamar. This is his second stage production and he is glad to be in Godspell at Ten West. He is heavily involved with the Indianapolis Children’s Choir, Mt. Vernon Drama Department, and the Mt. Vernon High School Choir. When he is not at school, you can find Ryan at Ten West volunteering his time. He would like to thank his parents for taking him to all of the rehearsals and hopes you thoroughly enjoy the show!

Robin – Shelby Caldwell

Shelby is a sophomore at Mt. Vernon. She enjoys acting and singing in the choir. Her favorite color is chartreuse and she likes capybaras. She is so glad to be a part of the Godspell gang. She feels that she has grown tremendously in her singing and acting abilities. In her free time, she is a historical Civil War re-enactor and enjoys the smell of burnt hair. Love you Mom and Dad!
Peggy – Lainy Cullen

Lainy Cullen is so glad to be in this great show! She is a proud member of The Mt. Vernon Choirs. Previous roles included the lead in Arsenic and Old Lace at MV. In her free time, Lainy enjoys food and beverage,  but keep her away from spiders and math problems! She doesn’t like either.

Jeffrey/Herb – Sarah Reich

Sarah is psyched to be in Godspell! She is so cool, she gets to play TWO characters! She is a Mt. Vernon students who loves to participate in choir. In her free time, she enjoys hanging out with her friends and watching old spaghetti westerns. She would like to thank her mom and dad for being so involved with the show and dedicating their time to it! She asks that you sit back, and enjoy the show. Go ahead, make her day.

Gilmer/Joanne – Stephanie McDole

Stephani comes to this production after recently placing at Greenfield Idol! She is a Mt. Vernon Choir Student, and loves this cast! She enjoys speaking in an irish accent and being the comedic relief! She would like to tell everyone in the whole world something very special: “Hi”. She is a natural born wordsmith. In her free time she enjoys watching Bob Ross paint happy little trees and reclining while listening to the angelic sounds of the garbage disposal.

Female Understudy – Caitlin Gartrell

Caitlin Gartrell is a 17 year-old junior at MVHS. Her hobbies include writing, singing, time travel, and watching Doctor Who. While she isn’t doing so for you today, Caitlin’s favorite thing to do is to perform, and she would like to thank Cassie, Andrew, and Matt for still allowing her to be part of this production. She always loves being involved with theatrical productions at Ten West, and Godspell is one of her favorite productions of all time. Despite not being apart of the performing cast, Caitlin would still like to thank everyone for coming out to support them and hopes that you enjoy the show.

Male Understudy – Jake McCarty

Jake would have loved to be in the show! However, scheduling conflicts keep him from fully participating, so he is on standby as an understudy. He sings at Mt. Vernon with the rest of the cast and enjoys fly fishing of the ivory coast. He hopes that the cast has a fantastic run and that they have the time of their lives. In his free time, Jake enjoys roots music, a cold glass of apple cider, and a meatball marinara hot pocket. Mmm, hot pocket.
